In Italien ist die Krippe der Mittelpunkt vom Weihnachtsfest - "Schuld" ist ein Prediger namens "Franz von Assisi", der nach der Wiederkehr von einer Pilgerreise nach Jerusalem in den Stall von Christi Geburt begeistert von der Krippe berichtete und das Feuer der Leidenschaft in den Italienern entfachte. Für Kinder bedeuten italienische Weihnachten vor allem aber, daß es Geschenke erst am Dreikönigstag gibt, denn auch das Christkind bekam damals seine Geschenke erst an diesem Tag. Die Geschenke bringt in Italien nicht der Weihnachtsmann, sondern die gute Zauberin Befana - sie saust auf ihrem Besen durch den Schornstein und füllt die Schuhe. Die guten Kindern bekommen Weihnachtsgeschenke und die unfolgsamen nur Kohlestückchen... (wohl eher selten auch durchgesetzt - aber so "sollte" es eigentlich sein...)
